As you can see there is much more to designing a café or restaurant then you would imagine but having all the above items planned beforehand will save you money in the long run.

Some of the most impressive restaurant interiors can be found in Switzerland, Cape Town, Belgium, Romania, Finland, New York, Japan, London and China. Hese are award winning designs. London’s Bangalore Express is designed to look like the inside of a train carriage with two levels and steps up to the higher table. The Chocolate Bar in Poland is tastefully decked out in brown furniture and what looks like melted chocolate dripping down the walls. Mmmmm!

The Café Ki in Tokyo is definitely an example of less is more. It has an incredibly fresh, clean minimalist interior whereas The Truth Café in South Africa is a very busy design with a real industrialist feel. Everything looks like the inside of a Victorian factory. There are so many great designs and much to draw inspiration from.

Remember the customer though, although you want your establishment to look incredible, you want your customers to be comfortable! Think about the ambience that will be created with your design. This will set the stage for your customer’s dining experience so think about furniture, music and the little things that your customer will feel. You will also need to balance seating capacity and ambience. Cramming in to maximum capacity may cramp customers and this will impact your ambience.

Entrance way, reception and bathrooms, if avoided, will be your downfall. First impressions mean a huge amount and the condition of your bathroom will reflect the state of your kitchen in the customer’s mind!
