How to read your electric meter

Uncategorised

One of the best ways that you can ensure that you get lower electricity bills is to read your own meter and supply the supplier with an accurate figure every month. Some providers ask you to do this online and it is a lot easier than relying on the estimated bill or for one of the suppliers representatives to come and read it. This does not happen as often as it once did. Of course, if you don’t have a clue then you might come a bit unstuck, therefore how do you read it?

The first part of this battle is making sure that the Electric Meter box is in top shape. If it is tatty or damaged it will make reading the meter a lot harder as it will have allowed the elements to get at it. Also, as the meter is usually the first thing that you see on the front of the house if it is looking in a sad state it can reflect badly on the rest of the place.

Now that we’ve sorted the box out, what can we see? Electric meters are a lot easier than gas meters as they generally do not involve a load of complicated analogy dials to try and decipher. You just need to input the figure that you see. However if you do have  a dial one start from the left and read to the right. You will not need the figures in the red part.
