Errol Flynn. An early icon

Lifestyle

For some there is still only one portrayal of Robin Hood that is any good. Although he might have been Australian and with Irish, Scottish and English Heritage (and not one of the Bounty mutineers or so he claimed) Errol Flynn became the quintessential English Bandit. His appearance swinging through the trees and landing perfectly to announce “Welcome to Sherwood!” still packs a punch and is visually arresting today as it was then. He was a star of the Golden Age of Hollywood through the 1930’s up to the 1950’s. He was also an incredibly stylish guy who began to set the tone for Mens fashions. You can bet that he would have had some Tommy Bowe Shoes in his wardrobe and he would have got them from https://www.louisboyd.co.uk/brands/tommy-bowe.html as well.

He often played Pirates and Rebels. This was also true of his private life. The good looks and smart clothes certainly hid a darker side. He enjoyed a drink and a smoke too much for his own good. He was even asked to leave an extravagant William Randoplh Hearst party that did him no favours. He also had a string of lovers and got married just so he could increase his movie contacts.

When he became an American citizen in 1942 he immediately tried to enlist in the war effort only to fail the medical on several fronts. This got him accused of draft dodging, however he could not tell the truth as the studio system was selling him as the embodiment of health and vigour.
