Frank Lloyd Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright, an American, wanted to be an architect. He moved to Chicago in order to study under pioneers of design. In 1893, he started his own company and created a concept for working with organic designs in architecture. He was well known for his building projects, such as the Larkin Building. However, he dabbled with furniture design. He was one of the most influential American architects of his time because of both his exterior and interior designs. Florence Knoll Bassett
Florence Knoll began her career as an architect and studied under influential designers. She then turned to furniture design after completing her studies. She applied her architectural experience to existing furniture designs. Her husband had already been successful in the furniture industry.
Charles and Ray Eames
From the 1950s until the 1970s, the Eames were the dominant force of furniture design in America. The Lounge and Ottoman Chairs were their most popular designs. They also worked on projects in architecture, photography and film. The couple was an inspiration to many leading designers during the period.
Arne Jacobson
The Danish architect and designer is most remembered for his iconic egg chair, which has been the inspiration for so many other pieces of furniture ever since. Jacobsen began designing furniture in the 1950s.
