How to turn your garage into a photography studio

Home Improvement

If you are a keen amateur photographer and you are thinking of branching out into professional photography you might be looking at studio spaces. There are some instances where you might be better off renting a space as and when you need it, but if you find that you are spending lots of money on studio time, you could think about setting one up in your home instead. You can use any space that you have available such as a spare room, summer house or even your garage space. It is important to make sure they are safe and secure, and a good Garage Doors Taunton company like www.upandoverdoorsltd.co.uk/garage-doors/garage-doors-taunton will be able to help you out with any problem that may have arisen with your garage door.

Once you have the space secure and you are ready to sit organising the space, there are a number of things that you will need to think about.

Backdrops – if you plan on taking portrait pictures, you will need to invest in some photography backdrops. These can be found in a number of different sizes, and you can have them fitted to your walls or ceiling to aid with saving space. If you are looking at product photography, you might not need large backdrops but may instead look at smaller options such as product boxes that allow you to place coloured inserts into the box. These act in much the same way as a coloured backdrop.

Lighting – all photographers know the importance of lighting, and there are lots of different ones on the market. Again it will depend very much on the type of photography that you are doing. With portrait imagery, you may want to get yourself some standing lights that can act as your flash systems. If you are shooting product images, you can use lightboxes to take your images. These act as a light source and allow you to change the filters to get the effect that you want.

Computer equipment – all photographers will download their images onto a computer. This can be done after a shoot, or in some cases, you may have your images syncing to a computer in real-time. The option that is chosen will depend on the preference and needs of the photographer.
