Moss is one of the most popular issues that plague a lawn. It is a strong sign that it is possible to compress soil and that drainage is poor. A moss killer will remove the moss, but when grass is in full growth, it needs to be allowed to expand to battle the problem grass, as moss is unable to compete for lawn space. The problem should be solved by an aerator. In order to reduce compaction, this would put holes in the soil of your lawn, allowing sunlight, nutrients and water to enter the grass roots, increasing growth and eradicating the moss.

A common lawn issue may be the mysterious mole. These solitary creatures survive on worms feasting underground – thus the many mounds of soil left dotted around the lawn. This, despite their tunnels providing aeration to the soil, can cause distress to the keen landscaper. Using a human trap or organic food material with an unpleasant odour such as a pickled egg or garlic dropped down the hole may be a solution. This should allow the mole to move to a new location.

Bald spots, brown patches and pale lawns are all common problems that signal that your lawn might be undernourished and/or your pets use the lawn for their bathroom. Feeding your lawn with nutrient-rich lawn supplements will remedy this. Fill in the topsoil and grass seeds in the bald areas, and do not forget to drink. Grass needs two inches of water a week and in no time, your lawn will be brought back to health with daily watering and mowing.
